Temperature Indicating Baby Sleep Suit by Babyglow (2 Pack)

AS SEEN ON THE APPRENTICE

The Babyglow Temperature Indicating Sleepsuit is a unique garment that can give you piece of mind as you can see at a glance whether your baby has a raised temperature or not. One pack contains two suits in the same size and colour. Batteries are not required as the suits are completely self powered. The process that Babyglow has developed and refined has been tested for accuracy and safety babies and pregnant mothers to be.

Babies up to 24 months old cannot regulate their own body temperature. They require their parents or carers to do this for them. Because babies are particularly sensitive to the effects of a high body temperature Babyglow suits are designed to instantly change colour when the baby's temperature rises above the normal average external body temperature of 36.5C. At this average body temperature the suit retains its normal colour. As the external body temperature of the wearer starts to rise the colour of the suit will start to change. Initially this can be in certain areas of the body only, at which stage you have an indication that appropriate action might be necessary. A change in colour (the suit goes from its original colour to a lighter shade and eventually to white) indicates a change in body temperature. More significant colour change indicates a higher degree of temperature change. This could be caused by fever but also by external factors such as a very warm room or exposure to too much sunlight (both also potentially causing overheating). Those that care for the baby can use for instance a room thermometer or a forehead thermometer to help identify where the rise in temperature originates. Further advice on body temperature can be obtained from www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk or your own local GP and health centre.

Babyglow Sleepsuits

This very easy to use suit is only to be used as a visual indicator which acts as an aid to the carer in determining whether temperature readings might be necessary. The colour change indicates a rise in temperature. At its peak performance rate the garment turns white. This normally indicates a significant change in temperature and should be treated as a potentially serious situation.

Pack includes:

  • Two suits in the same size and colour
  • FREE room and forehead thermometer

Babyglow temperature indicating suits effectively indicate when the baby’s temperature rises showing the potential presence of an illness quicker than other methods do. Our unique and tested products will help parents to visually monitor the baby’s temperature 24 hours a day without any effort or energy source. Time is a crucial factor in a number of illnesses. The faster you react to those illnesses, the more likely it is that treatment will be effective. Babyglow suits have such an immediate response that you could see an effect on the suit before the baby has even shown any signs of illness yet. Remember to check other factors that can cause a raised temperature when the suit responds, such as exposure to heat sources (warm room, sun, radiators for instance) or too many layers of clothing or blankets.

Baby temperature health tips:

The recommended ambient temperature for a room that a baby is kept in is 16-20 degrees Celsius, that's 61-68 degrees Fahrenheit. For many of us, this feels rather cool, but research has shown that it is a safe and comfortable temperature for a baby to sleep in. In ordinary circumstances it is not recommended that central heating be left on over night, unless a thermostat controls it.

The tummy / stomach area or neck are good indicators of the baby's temperature, so feel those area's if you want to do a quick check. Hands and feet are not good area's for a temperature reading, as they often feel cool.

It is true that Babyglow suits often react first around the tummy / stomach area as that area tends to be one of the first in the baby's body that will become warmer.

The human average body temperature varies from 36.5 to 37.5. It is regulated by a well balanced and intelligent system that our bodies operate continuously. Babies however cannot regulate their body temperature independently until after they are about 24 months old. This causes them to frequently develop a fever, which means that their body temperature rises. These fevers are often due to viral infections that will come and go again, but occasionally a fever can be a sign of a more serious illness.

Why and how does the body develop a fever?

When the body detects infection or something it cannot identify, such as a virus, it produces a reaction affecting the heat-regulating centre of the brain called the hypothalamus. Several reactions in the body then purposely increase the body temperature to higher levels in an attempt to kill the infection. This is why in the case of illness the body raises its temperature. As fever can also become dangerous itself, the general consensus in the medical world is to attempt to lower the temperature back to normal levels.

BABYGLOW products are designed to start changing colour when the temperature of the body rises over 37°C and they are fully functional (white in area's that touch the baby) when the temperature reaches 38.5°C, which is where fever can become dangerous to the child. This unique functionality will help parents to see signs of fever or overheating immediately, even before the child becomes noticeably ill.

Simply put, when your child is too hot the Babyglow clothes change colour. This gives you a visual and immediate warning. Your baby should not be too hot and it should not have a fever. Babyglow products warn in both cases. The external temperature (skin temperature) should normally be around 36.5 degrees Celcius. At this temperature the Babyglow products are their normal colour.

When this temperature rises, which could be because of fever or because of other factors such as a warm room, the clothes change colour immediately. This gives you the warning you need to do something. Check that the baby has not got a fever and check that the room or conditions around the baby are not too hot. Because your baby cannot control its own body temperature yet (it can't sweat to compensate for instance) it relies on you to do this instead. Babyglow products help you by letting you know when you need to take action.

Babyglow operates without batteries or stimulation from any accessories or electricity. The body temperature is enough to make the clothes perform their function.
